Candidate For Minneapolis School Board, District 3
For the past six years, Siad Ali has served on the Minnesota staff of U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar as a senior constituent advocate focusing on immigration casework and community outreach.
Holding a 2007 Master’s degree in education from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Siad has many years of experience in the employment, immigration, education and diversity fields. He lived in India for eight years and before immigrating to the United States, he received a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce & Computers from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India; a Master’s degree of Commerce from Bundelkhand University, Jhansi, India; an Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Pune, India.
When Siad Ali arrived in Minneapolis in 2000, he began work as a temporary laborer in Mora, Minnesota. His willingness to engage in hard work earned him progressively more complicated work experiences and greater responsibilities, including a Bilingual Educational Assistant for the Minneapolis Public Schools.
Later in his career, Siad Ali served as a career counselor at Owatonna’s Work Force Center and as an adjunct faculty member with Riverland Community College in Owatonna. He also served on the City of Owatonna’s Human Rights Commission and Owatonna’s Allina Hospital Board of Trustees.
Siad Ali looks forward to meeting with community members, especially from Minneapolis’ School District Three, to discuss mutual issues of concern, in addition to including developing better business, neighborhood and educational partnerships, improving youth mentoring, increasing pay for teachers, addressing the achievement gap for Minneapolis’ students, and a providing a greater commitment to equity for all students in Minneapolis, regardless of schools attended and family income.
